A cognitive-behavioral therapy program uses this therapy in an extended way to formally treat a mental health or substance abuse disorder. This therapy is often delivered as a program because it is actually an umbrella under which multiple, more granular types of treatment exist. Four varieties of cognitive-behavioral therapy may be used as part of a cognitive-behavioral therapy program.
The third component of a cognitive-behavioral therapy program is multimodal therapy. This approach tackles psychological issues by addressing seven distinct modalities: behavior, affect, sensation, imagery, cognition, interpersonal factors, and biological factors. Last is rational emotive behavior therapy, or REBT for short. REBT targets irrational beliefs, challenges them, and helps people overcome them.
